Strangulation is a critical lethality risk factor for intimate partner homicide, as it signifies a highly dangerous level of physical violence and control within an abusive relationship. Survivors who experience strangulation are at a heightened risk of subsequent lethal violence, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention and support in such cases. This animated video is a shortened version of the webinar from the DV RISC Lethality Risk Factors Series,  and highlights why strangulation  is a lethality risk factor, how it’s identified in specific IPV risk assessments, and practical steps that can be taken once it is flagged.
