NYS Domestic Violence Fatality Review

June 1, 2021

New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence

The NYS Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team was established through legislation signed by Governor Cuomo on October 25, 2012. The team conducts a confidential, in-depth analysis of deaths or near-deaths that result from domestic violence. The goal of the review is not to find fault or to blame anyone for the death. The goal is to learn from these very difficult cases in an effort to identify ways to improve the overall response to domestic violence, with an eye toward preventing similar tragedies in the future.
